Conclusion

There were nine RCTS that included 1000 patients. After prior drainage, laparoscopic cholecystectomy was a mean of 1.4 min quicker (P=0.02), had a lower conversion rate (odds ratio 0.16, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.08 to 0.31, P<0.00001) and fewer complications 0.29, 0.17 to 0.51, P<0.0001), and a shorter hospital stay (1.26 days fewer).
