Conclusion

In addition to ovarian suppression, some 4690 women were randomly allocated exemestane or tamoxifen for five years in two trials. Overall survival was similar at five years, but freedom from breast cancer was 92.8 per cent with exemestane versus 88.8 per cent with tamoxifen, P<0.001.
