Conclusion

A total of 3864 women were followed for a median of five years. Breast cancer occurred in 2 per cent of treated women and 4 per cent of those who received placebo: hazard ratio 0.47, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.32 to 0.68, P<0.0001.
