Conclusion

Some 1010 women with DCIS <5cm were followed for a median 15.8 years. Radiotherapy reduced local recurrence by 48 per cent (hazard ratio 0.52, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.4 to 0.68; P<0.01), but did not affect breast cancer-specific survival: hazard ratio 1.07, 0.6 to 1.91.
