Conclusion

Over 100,000 women were randomized in clusters. At the end of the first round of screening, 2880 women had suspicious findings on examination, and 30 had breast cancer. Detection of early breast cancer was higher in the examination group: 18.1 versus 8.1 per 100,000 women.
