Conclusion

The trial was conducted in 23 breast units in the United Kingdom. At mean follow-up of 10.7 years, there was a non-significant reduction in breast cancer-related mortality: relative risk 0.83, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.66 to 1.04, P=0.11; absolute risk reduction 0.4 per 1000 women invited for screening.
