Conclusion

In this study of 950 hernia procedures, recurrence was more frequent after one year if lightweight mesh was used (2.7 versus 0.8 percent; P= 0.03). Lightweight mesh was also associated with more significant pain at one year: 2.9 versus 0.7 per cent, P=0.01.
