Conclusion

Over 50,000 men were randomly allocated to ultrasound screening for AAA, blood pressure measurement and Doppler ankle pressure measurement, or controls. Treatment of these conditions in the active arm improved median survival after a median of 4.4 years: hazard ratio of death 0.93, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.88 to 0.98, P=0.01.
