Conclusion

Over 12,000 men were randomized in 1994. Screening reduced the rate of acute aortic operations from 40 to 13 in the control group (risk ratio 0.32, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.17 to 0.6, p<0.001), and deaths from aneurysm disease: 51 to 114, risk ratio 0.27, 0.15 to 0.49, p<0.001.
