Conclusion

The addition of ultrasound imaging to standard mammography in this study that included 72,998 women increased the detection of breast cancer: 0.5 versus 0.32 per cent, P=0.0003. It also reduced the rate of subsequent interval cancers: 0.05 versus 0.1 per cent, P=0.034.
