Conclusion

Over 5000 women were originally randomized. After eleven years of follow-up, the relative risk of developing breast cancer was 0.84, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.6 to 1.17. In high risk women, tamoxifen was more effective: relative risk 0.24, 0.1 to 0.59.
