Conclusion

This study examined the effect of shortening the screening interval from three years to one year in 100,000 women aged from 50 to 62 years. The predicted relative risk of death from breast cancer (using the Nottingham Prognostic Index) was slightly lower for annual mammography: relative risk 0.95, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.83 to 1.07, p=0.4.
