Conclusion

Some 509 women due to have oophrectomy, who were not in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle were randomized to early or delayed surgery. After five years, luteal phase oophrectomy had no survival advantage: 64 versus 71 per cent (P=0.18). There was actually an improvement in disease-free survival after follicular phase surgery on multivariable analysis.
