30 day results from the SPACE Trial of stent-protected angioplasty versus carotid endarterectomy in symptomatic patients: a randomised non-inferiority trial. Lancet 2006; 368: 1239-1247.

Conclusion

Twelve hundred patients with a symptomatic carotid stenosis were randomized. The rates of death or ipsilateral stroke within 30 days of intervention were 6.84 per cent after stenting and 6.34 per cent after surgery. Non-inferiority of stenting was not proven (P=0.09).
