Conclusion

In 407 high risk patients, the addition of intermittent compression to anti-embolic stockings and low molecular weight heparin reduced the risk of deep vein thrombosis from 16.7 to 0.5 per cent (relative risk 0.03, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.01 to 0.21).
