Conclusion

This multicentre study enrolled 167 patients available for analysis. The extended resection took longer and was associated with greater blood loss and more nodes retrieved (34 versus 17, P<0.001). It did not increase the rate of R0 resection or median survival: 18 versus 19 months for standard resection (P=0.24).
