Conclusion

There were 13 trials including 7484 patients for analysis. Compared with standard endarterectomy stenting was associated with a higher risk of stroke (relative risk 1.45, 95 per cent confidence interval 1.06 to 1.99), death (1.40, 0.85 to 2.33), but a lower risk of myocardial infarction (0.43, 0.26 to 0.71).
