Conclusion

In this study that included 620 patients, surgery within 24h of admission reduced overall mean hospital stay (5.4 versus 10 days, P<0.001). It also reduced morbidity rates (11.8 versus 34.4 per cent) without affecting the rate of conversion to open surgery.
