Conclusion

Forty-three patients were recruited. The treatment improved both 5-year survival (66.7 vs. 36.4 per cent, P=0.04) and 10-year survival (52.4 vs. 27.3 per cent, P=0.09). The difference ceased to be significant after eight years.
