Conclusion

Some 410 patients with symptomatic proximal DVT were randomly allocated elastic compression or placebo stockings for 2 years. The cumulative rate of post-thrombotic syndrome was similar: 14.2 per cent versus 12.7 per cent, respectively, P=0.58.
