Conclusion

Fifty patients with mild gallstone pancreatitis were included. Patients randomized to laparoscopic cholecystectomy within 48h, regardless of symptom resolution or abnormal laboratory values, had a shorter hospital stay (median 3 vs. 4 days, P=0.0016), but no increase in complications over those who had delayed cholecystectomy.
