Conclusion

Over 8000 patients with acute venous thromboembolism were included. Recurrent symptomatic thromboembolism occurred in 3.2 per cent with edoxaban versus 3.5 per cent on warfarin (P<0.001 for non-inferiority). Rates of major or clinically relevant bleeding were higher with warfarin: 10.3 versus 8.5 per cent, P=0.004.
