Conclusion

This was a meta-analysis of ten randomized trials that included 38,000 patients. In the six treatment trials, the new agents were as effective as warfarin, but with fewer bleeding complications. In the three secondary prevention trials, the new agents were effective at reducing recurrent venous thromboembolism, and all-cause mortality.
