Conclusion

After four years, the risk of ipsilateral stroke or death was higher in the angioplasty and stenting group (11.1 vs. 6.2 per cent, P=0.03), but the difference was largely due to the higher procedural risk of stenting. Late strokes were rare after both procedures in this study that included 527 patients.
