Endovascular or open repair for ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm: 30-day outcomes from the IMPROVE randomised trial. BMJ 2014;348:f7661.

Conclusion

The study included 613 patients with clinical suspicion of ruptured aortic aneurysm. Thirty-day mortality was similar following an endovascular strategy (35 per cent) or open surgical repair (37 per cent), with no cost difference.  With an endovascular strategy, women appeared to have lower mortality and patients were discharged home sooner.
