Conclusion

Some 504 procedures were included initially and followed for a median of five years. Up to 30 days, stroke and death rates were similar. Nor were any of the differences statistically significant after 30 days, although there were more ipsilateral strokes in the angioplasty group (11 vs. 8.6 per cent) and more ipsilateral strokes or TIA (19.3 vs. 17.2 per cent).
