Conclusion

One hundred and two patients were included and followed for 18 months. Mortality rates were similar after Hartmann’s (7.7 per cent) versus primary anastomosis (4 per cent); P= 0.42. Morbidity rates were also similar. Stoma reversal rates were 65 and 96 per cent, respectively; P=0.0001.
