Conclusion
A total of 4731 patients were followed for a median of 4.9 years. Overall mortality rates were similar. Atorvastatin reduced the rate of fatal and non fatal stroke from 13.1 to 11.2 per cent (hazard ratio 0.84, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.71 to 0.99, P=0.03).
