Conclusion

Some 881 patients were included and followed for a mean of 5.2 years. The mortality rate was similar in the two groups: hazard ratio 0.97, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.77 to 1.22, P=0.81. There were ten (2.3 per cent) aneurysm-related deaths after endovascular repair (six ruptures) and sixteen (3.7 per cent) after open repair (no ruptures), P=0.22.
