Conclusion

Twelve studies were included, with a total of 1357 procedures randomized. Both approaches had similar outcomes. Endoscopy first had a similar rate of successful duct clearance (relative risk 0.85, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.64 to 1.12, P=0.25), mortality (1.79, 0.66 to 4.83) and morbidity (0.89, 0.71 to 1.13).
