Conclusion

A total of 507 patients undergoing abdominal surgery were studied. Use of the vacuum dressing reduced time to wound closure (36.1 versus 39.1 days, P<0.001), but increased the risk of wound-related adverse events: risk ratio 1.51, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.99 to 2.35.
