Conclusion

In the 22 procedures studied, cumulative fluid balance on day five was 8242ml in the standard and 2570ml in the restricted infusion group (P<0.01). Restricting fluid infusion reduced the rate of major perioperative complications (1 vs. 14, P<0.024) and reduced the duration of postoperative hospital stay (8 vs. 16 days, P<0.025).
