Conclusion

Sixty-two patients were randomized to 6% HES 200, 6% HES 140 or 4% gelatine. There were significant reductions in postoperative serum creatinine and urinary alpha-1 microglobulin:creatinine ratio with the 6% HES solutions. Larger trials are needed to assess the impact on clinical endpoints.
