Conclusion

There were no differences in outcomes between these two methods in the 172 procedures studied. Renal dysfunction rates were similar after cold blood perfusion (31 per cent) and crystalloid (24 per cent). Respective mortality rates (8 vs. 6 per cent) and need for haemodialysis (3 per cent both groups) were also equivalent.
