Conclusion

The study included 806 patients with atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis followed for five years. The two groups had similar outcomes in terms of renal or cardiovascular events, or death. Nor was there any advantage from intervention over blood pressure control. After revascularisation, patients had slightly better renal function: mean serum creatinine 1.6 micromol per litre lower, P=0.06.
