Conclusion

This study used data from the three largest international trials (3433 procedures). In the first 120 days after randomization the risk of any stroke or death was higher after stenting (8.9 per cent) than surgery (5.8 per cent); P=0.0006. Subgroup analysis suggested that stenting might be as safe as surgery in people under 70.
