Single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy is associated with improved cosmesis scoring at the cost of significantly higher hernia rates: 1-year results of a prospective randomised, multicenter, single-blinded trial of traditional multiport laparoscopic cholecystectomy vs single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Conclusion

This multicentre study included 200 procedures. Cosmetic outcome scores favoured the single incision technique up to one year after surgery (P<0.0001), but at the risk of increased rates of incisional hernia: 8.4 versus 1.2 per cent, P=0.03.
