Conclusion

After adjustment for risk factors, the total number of postoperative complications was reduced in the restricted fluid group in this study that included 264 procedures: relative risk 0.75, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.58 to 0.96, P=0.027. Reoperation rates, length of stay and 90 day mortality rates were similar.
