Conclusion

Some 775 patients were randomized to telephone follow-up or usual care. There was no difference in subsequent patient experience, attendance at the hospital emergency department (10.8 versus 13.8 per cent, respectively), or unplanned hospital admission (25.6 versus 27.9 per cent) between the groups.
