Conclusion
Fourteen studies were analysed. Survival was better only if aspirin was given after diagnosis, when in improved overall survival was seen for both colonic (hazard ratio 0.78, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.64 to 0.96) and rectal cancer (0.90, 0.83 to 0.98). Improvement appeared to be confined to patients with tumours expressing COX-2 and/or PIK3CA mutation.
