A prospective randomized controlled trial of semi-mechanical versus hand-sewn or circular stapled esophagogastrostomy for prevention of anastomotic stricture. World J Surg 2013; 37: 1043-1050.

Conclusion

In this trial that included 155 patients undergoing oesophagogastrectomy, the rate of anastomotic stricture was 0/55 in the semi-mechanical anastomosis group, 5/52 after hand-sewn anastomosis and 9/47 after use of the circular stapler. Reflux/regurgitation scores were similar after all procedures.
