Conclusion

One hundred patients with a thyroid nodule less than 3cm in diameter were randomized. The minimally invasive method, done through a 2.5cm lateral incision, took longer (56 vs. 46 min, P<0.001), but resulted in lower pain scores the day after surgery (P=0.032). This difference had gone by ten days. At three months cosmetic satisfaction was greater after minimally invasive surgery
