A randomized, prospective, parallel group study comparing the Harmonic Scalpel to electrocautery in thyroidectomy. Surgery 2005; 137: 306-311.

Conclusion

The mean duration of surgery was 25 min less in the Harmonic Scalpel group in this trial that included 60 procedures. In addition, blood loss was reduced (35ml vs. 51ml, p=0.06). Postoperative pain was similar in the two groups.
