Conclusion

Some 207 patients admitted to hospital with trauma were screened for symptoms and then randomly allocated psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. Over the following year, rates of post-traumatic stress disorder were lower in the intervention group (P<0.001), who also had significant improvements in quality of life (physical function) (P<0.01).
