Conclusion

Some 243 patients with uncomplicated appendicitis diagnosed on CT were included. Of those randomized to antibiotic treatment, 14/120 had appendicectomy within 30 days and a further 30 within a year. Peritonitis within 30 days was (non-significantly) more common in the antibiotic group: 8 versus 2 per cent.
