Conclusion

This trial included 10,010 patients undergoing surgery in a 2x2 trial that included a clonidine arm. Aspirin did not reduce the rate of death or myocardial infarction, but it did increase the risk of major bleeding (4.6 versus 3.8 per cent). Likewise, clonidine had no beneficial effect.
