Conclusion

Two hundred patients were followed for a mean of 11.3 years. There was only one reoperation for recurrent goitre (bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy). There were no differences in the rates of recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy or hypoparathyroidism, and the requirement for thyroxine replacement.
