Conclusion

There were nine trials to analyse. Continuous positive airway pressure reduced the rate of postoperative pulmonary complications (risk ratio 0.66, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.52 to 0.85), with a number of patients needed to treat for benefit of 14.2.
