Conclusion

The overall adverse event rate was 30 per cent after early surgery and 55 per cent after interval appendicectomy (P=0.003) in this study that included 131 children under 18.Twenty-three children allocated to interval treatment required earlier surgery, and total time away from normal activities was higher in this group: 19.4 versus 13.8 days, P<0.001.
