Conclusion

In this study that included 117 evaluable patients, there was no difference in the rate of splenic salvage (>50% vascularised spleen at on month) in those who had early prophylactic embolisation compared to those who had embolisation if needed (98.2 versus 93.3 per cent). Hospital stay was shorter in the prophylactic embolisation group: 9 versus 13 days, P=0.002.
